Immigrants in US: Policy of Immigration Research Paper.
The US is largely known for being an immigrants’ nation. However, in recent times, attempts have been made to minimize the numbers of immigrants in the nation. These efforts, for instance, the travel ban passed by President Donald Trump have affected many families. Particularly, the ban affects the majority of Muslim countries. For instance, Sudi Wardere, a U.S citizen, expected that it would be easy for her husband, a Somali national, to acquire a visa that would allow him to join her in the US and live with his family. Summary of the Article
The article highlights problems faced by a majority of Muslims in the US. Particularly, most Muslims in the US complain that even for those who already acquired citizenship, they are treated as second-class citizens. In this regard, some Muslims such as Wardere have made legal complaints on the wrongful denial of visas (Siddiqui). More so, immigration advocates faulted the travel ban indicating that Trump’s Administration is working against legal migration by interfering with the existing legal programs. For instance, the ban makes it hard for legal immigrants to obtain green cards while spouses to high skilled immigrants faced the threat of their visas being revoked. Most interesting issue
It is interesting and yet appalling that spouses and families of US citizens can be banned from traveling into the country without cause. A spouse should be allowed to visit another in whichever country they are as long as they are married. I find it difficult to understand the grounds on which the US has to ban Muslims from traveling into the country. Although Muslim extremists perpetrate most terrorist attacks, there are proper channels and systems to check whether an individual has links to such groups. As such, it is unfair to ban all Muslims. This surmounts to inequality, yet the law requires equal treatment for all citizens.
There are both legal and undocumented immigrants. It is only right for the legal immigrants to acquire citizenship and travel visas for their families. However, the ban makes it hard for this to happen. More so, immigrants will find it hard to get work permits in the US. A closer analysis of the ban and its effects, one wonders whether it is objective or ill-advised. More so, the preferential treatment in awarding of citizenship raises the question whether one has to be related to an influential person get his/her citizenships without any hurdles. Immigrants in US: Policy of Immigration Research Paper. For instance, Melania Trump’s parents who were U.S immigrants became citizens of the US with the help of their daughter; this was done without much consideration.

What I learned from the Article
This article offers a better understanding of the challenges faced by immigrants in the US, and the reasons the government has for banning immigrants from getting into the country. However, it is prudent that a solution is found to prevent inequality and preferential application of the law. In essence, there are policies and system checks that are followed in visa and citizenship applications. As such, individuals considered as threats can be identified and denied visas, as opposed to a generalized travel ban that targets particular minority groups in the United States. In this regard, policy makers ought to find polices that are objective and fair to all citizens.
