Body of the Essay
The driver of virtually all socio-economic activities in most countries has been directly
linked to tourism that also has the ability of initiating progress through the creation of
employment and better infrastructure (Coon, 2012). The legalization of same sex marriages in
most countries has resulted in an increase in the number of either gay or lesbian couples who
tour the world with the aim of having a dream vacation. Similarly, their transgender, queer and
bisexual counterparts have also been included in these laws and they now travel more frequently
than before (Boyd, 2011). The impact that the LGBTQ community has on tourism can be felt
within the social, economic and human rights circles.
This is evident in cities such as Johannesburg, Chicago and even Toronto have
experienced the boost that the LGBTQ people bring to their economies (Murray, C. (2015).
The fact that these cities have legalized same sex marriages allows couples to travel to these
destinations and have the time of their lives. This directly translates to increased revenue, local
taxes and even profits for the hotels that host these tourists. Further, there is also an influx of
foreign exchange with strengthens the currency of the nation for the better.
From a social perspective, the LGBTQ community places the instrumental role of
bringing people together and championing for equal treatment just like their heterosexual
counterparts (Theriault and Witt, 2014). What’s more, couples that are either gay, bisexual or
transgender can comfortably travel with their family members and close friends to their preferred
destinations. This paints the image that they are also part of the community and they encourage
people to understand this concept (Revenin, 2012).
From the human rights perspective, tourism that is inclined on the LGBTQ community
plays an integral role of ensuring that this people are able to lead normal lives without being
harassed or humiliated. The fact that tourism has actually increased in the above mentioned three
cities is sufficient proof of the fact that change is the only process that is inevitable (Theriault
and Witt, 2014). Impacts of LGBTQI Tourism Assignment Paper.

very clear when assessed in terms of social, human rights and economic perspectives. The

allowed cities such as Chicago, Toronto and even Johannesburg to witness an influx of tourists
that has never even been experienced.
